Hello Nilesh ji. Your sound and breath consistency are very good. Do see if you can stretch the note till about 25-30 seconds at least. Also, attend the monthly meet so we can discuss ‘Listening to the Tanpura’. The sur is a little flat on both submissions.

That teevra Ma does seem a bit off. Can’t tell if sharp or flat as both flutes are playing in the above audio file. But from experience, I can say that most teevra madhyams are flat, unless custom made with clear instructions to the makers. Let us chat privately to find out who made this instrument and also do a listening session 🙂

Jaideep ji, the ideas and flow is very nice! Your understanding of the Raag is quite comprehensive! I would ask you to pay attention to the little nuances in your finger movements. Specially in your meends. I feel they can sound a little more detailed and timed better also.

The last note is straight. All others have the gamak. This situation might’ve changed in certain note positions. So, please listen to the instruction at the top and try to follow what I have played in the video. Hope this helps 🙂

Specific articulations such as meend and alap are almost impossible to notate in the western notation (in my limited knowledge). Someone who knows more can correct me if I am wrong here, please.

@diliphegde They are being re-produced as we speak. These were exported a while ago. Hopefully the audio is clear so far. In some cases, it is also a buffered stream. Similar to youtube. Let the video buffer for a bit before you play it and see if that helps?

The whole point in those alankars is for you to use your ears to follow the notes. I have always maintained (and it is true) that music is an aural art form. So the learning should use minimal visual help (like tuners or notations) – unless you are learning a song and would like to keep a notation sheet for reference.

There is a fundamental approach to vocal music on any instrument – This is based on syllables. We use strokes of the tongue to depict the syllables. As I understand it, it is detail agnostic. When we use the extension on Chrome, it gives us the ability to only Globally change pitch and tempo separately. Unlike an auto-tuner plugin which pitch ‘corrects’ the audio, this extension only allows / shifts pitch and time elastically with minimum artefacts. 🙂
