What taal is used for the Bhoopali Sargam Geet lesson?

More generally, for someone like me who doesn’t know much about ICM rhythm (Teentaal and Ektaal is about all I can reliably identify), any pointers about where to learn the basics? Or more generally how to identify taals.
Sometimes I can manage by counting beats and then looking through the samples in iTabla Pro to find a taal with the same count, but it’s not easy for untutored Western ears.

Having written the above, I now think it might be Ektaal.
Is listening for (1) the number of beats in a cycle and (2) where the sam and khali are, enough to identify a taal?
Anyone know of a good reference to the common taals?
