  • What All Flutes in a Complete Flute-Set

Posted by Shivanand on 01/10/2024 at 7:17 am

I’m growing my flute collection and aiming to have a complete flute-set one day. I don’t want to buy them all at once and would rather be excited about every new flute I get.

What all flutes are supposed to be there in a complete flute-set? I’d assume minimum 12 for all the 12 notes. But what about other octaves? TIA.

When I did, I also bought it one by one.

It was mainly based on the requirements of the key, the original song that I wanted to play was based on and also the Octave in which I wanted to play.

    The biggest flute I have currently is a C# and then in the order of decreasing size D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F# and G

This has proven to be enough till now for me.

I’ve seen flutes going upto A at both ends.

I think there’s no limit if the flute maker is creative and the player talented enough. I’ve seen Ashwin sir playing Ocarinas and Ney flutes with same proficiency.

    My views:

    Hi,

Arjun here, but without a divine bow (a complete Flute set) 😀

As Iam not a professional, iam not recognising a need of a Flute set, at present.

But still i enhanced my collection, and in addition to my E bass, iam having a higher(lengthwise) Bass Flute , a lower(lengthwise) Bass Flute and a middle Flute.

From these flutes of varied lengths, other than my regular practice, once in a week, i pick one flute to practice 1.5-2hr of Alankar/Palta.

Over a period of time, I noticed,

    1. The practice on a Higher Flute has yielded better holding, reachability and poster ON E BASS.

    2. The practice on Lower and middle Flutes has yielded improved playability of komal Swars and Meends ON E BASS.

    Regards

    Arjun
